Epochs
In LABO, Epochs form the foundation of your experimental design — a flexible, no-code trial system tailored for behavioural research.
Each Epoch represents a single, structured segment of an experiment, akin to a trial or phase in traditional study designs. Whether you're presenting stimuli, collecting responses, or orchestrating complex 3D interactions, Epochs allow you to define what happens, how it happens, and when it ends.
A Familiar Structure, With More Possibility
Epochs can replicate the core patterns of classic experimental paradigms. For example, an Epoch might be used to:
- Display an instruction screen to orient the participant
- Show a fixation cross (
+
) during an inter-trial interval (ITI) - Present a stimulus — visual, auditory, or spatial — for timed exposure
- Collect participant input via rating scales, dropdowns, or open fields
But Epochs also go beyond 2D screens and static trials. With LABO’s immersive capabilities, an Epoch can define a fully interactive 3D environment where participants move, engage with virtual objects, and generate rich behavioural data — all without writing code.
