Windows Applications
A Windows build is used for any application you want to run on a Windows PC. This includes both PCVR Experiences (for headsets connected to the computer) and traditional desktop applications (run on a monitor with mouse, keyboard, or gamepad).
It is commonly used for Extended Reality (XR) Experiences that require the headset to stay tethered to a PC with a cable. This is because the app depends on the computer’s hardware, such as its graphics card and processor, to run.
When you make a Windows build, it creates an .exe
file. This can be used for PCVR setups, such as running through SteamVR or OpenXR, or for desktop applications. Windows builds can handle higher-quality graphics, but they only work while the headset remains connected to the computer.
